If you are trying to cut down on the amount of plastic in your life then changing from bottled shampoo to a solid shampoo bar is one easy switch you can make.
Have you been thinking about switching for a while but not quite been ready to take the plunge? Perhaps you've tried it before but didn't like the results. It is true that if you are using an all natural shampoo bar for the first time, it may take some time for your hair and scalp to get used to it as it goes through a period of “detox”. It can take a while for the chemicals that have built up on your hair to be washed out and your scalp may also take some time to get back to producing its natural amount of sebum again. Picture this - your hair is oily so you choose a shampoo which cleans the oil from your hair and scalp leaving it clean and shiny. Because all the oil has been stripped away, your scalp goes into overdrive and produces more, you wash it away, your scalp produces even more....... and so the cycle continues. This is what happened to me! I remember when I was in my 20's it got to the terrible stage that I needed to wash my hair every day and if I was planning to go out in the evening, I'd wash it again! Thankfully those days of constant hair washing are long gone! When I started to use a natural shampoo bar it took some time for my scalp to catch up. For a while my hair felt dull and a bit waxy. But after this period of transition, I found that I could leave my hair much longer between washes. Some of you will be lucky and your hair will be fantastic from the start. Many of our customers have mentioned that they didn't go through this period of transition at all. If you are one of the unlucky ones, like me, during this time your hair may feel duller or drier than usual. I know it doesn’t sound too good, but please persevere – it’ll be worth it! These days there are more and more shampoo bars to choose from and they are readily available. Bear in mind, though, that not all shampoo bars are natural. They may contain some of the chemicals (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate - SLS, artificial fragrance, artificial colour etc) which are found in regular liquid shampoos and which can cause itchiness or irritation. So if you are looking for shampoo which is chemical free as well as plastic free, it's worth reading the ingredients list before you make your choice. Our shampoo bars don't contain any artificial fragrance, colour or SLS and are suitable for you if you have a sensitive or irritated scalp or suffer from dandruff. Why not give it a go? Check out our range of organic shampoo bars. Keep an eye out for my next post which will be full of useful tips for getting the best results from your natural shampoo bar.🙂 |
