I don’t know if you’re anything like me, but my feet always need some extra care and attention when spring comes around. I hate cold feet and so they spend most of the year snuggled up in cosy socks and boots. When they eventually see the light of day, they look a bit sad! Over the past few years I’ve worked out a routine which I use to get them back into shape in time for sandal weather and to keep them feeling soft and comfortable until they get hidden away again!!! Here are some tips: 1. Wash your feet every day. Using a soap which contains anti-bacterial and anti-fungal essential oils is good if you suffer from smelly feet, athletes foot or have fungal nail infection. Tea tree oil is great! Peppermint and Lavender are too. 2. Once you’ve washed your feet, if you have hard, dry skin patches, gently use a pumice stone to rub away the dead skin. Do this while your feet are still wet. Don’t overdo it though as you may end up with sore feet. It’s best to use it gently and regularly. 3. Now's a good time to cut your nails too. Keep them trimmed and short. Short nails are less likely to crack, split and get infected. 4. Follow up with some rich cream rubbed into your feet, toe nails and ankles. 5. This is a great opportunity to give your feet a lovely massage and it’ll help relieve any aches and pains too. I use Shea Butter which is full of vitamins and deeply nourishes and repairs the skin. Using the shea butter with anti-bacterial essential oils can help keep your feet feeling fresh and clean and help with those conditions mentioned above. I love using minty oils when my feet are feeling hot and tired. Cedarwood oil is wonderful if your feet and shins are feeling achy. 6. I have found that the important thing is to do this on a regular basis. 7. I follow these steps at night to give the oils lots of time to absorb into the skin and usually put on a clean pair of socks to prevent the oils rubbing off onto the sheets. Using the Shea Butter with essential oils at bedtime has an extra bonus - it can help you get a good night's sleep too. 8. Adapt the steps above to fit in with your own routine.
