Have you thought about switching to a natural shampoo bar but would like some advice?
Perhaps you've bought a shampoo bar but haven't taken the plunge yet! Or maybe you have started using one but it's not quite working for you. If you've read my last 2 posts, hopefully you found them to be useful. The first, Ditch the Plastic & Switch to a Natural Shampoo Bar describes what happens when you start using a shampoo bar and the transitioning period you may go through while your hair and scalp get used to it. The second, Tips for Using a Natural Shampoo Bar (1), gives you tips on how to use the bar and what to do about conditioning. But how do you choose the best bar for you? You may be thinking about using a natural shampoo bar to reduce your plastic use, but it has another advantage. A natural shampoo bar, full of soothing plant oils and therapeutic essential oils can do wonders for your scalp and skin in general. If you have an irritated or itchy scalp, suffer from eczema or psoriasis or have dandruff, then using one of our bars can really help. We have had great reviews from customers to say how switching to our shampoo bars has helped with these conditions. Remember that if you wash your hair in the shower, whatever you put on your hair is also going to go over all of the skin on your body. Changing your shampoo to one without artifical ingredients can also help improve the skin on your face and body too. Rosemary & Nettle Shampoo Bar is a great clarifying shampoo and will leave your hair squeaky clean. The herbs in it, as well as Cedarwood essential oil are well known to help with dandruff, soothe itching and strengthen the hair. Sweet Citrus is the best one for using on oily scalps. Containing citrus essential oils which clean and purify the scalp. Chamomile & Lavender is our most gentle shampoo bar, smells gorgeous and may be the best one if you have a very sensitive scalp or skin. The ingredients will soothe and nourish. And here are a few final tips: Avoid contact with eyes as the lather may sting. If you use vinegar, this will definitely sting. So, If you get the shampoo or the vinegar in your eyes rinse with plenty of water. Remember, if you are using one of our bars, you can use it on your face and body too! If you keep your bar dry between uses it will last much longer. You can keep it on a slotted soap dish or hang it up in a soap bag made from natural fibre. Don't leave it sitting in a puddle of water as your bar will go soggy and won't last as long. If you generally use it in the shower, don't leave it where it will get wet every time someone has a shower. Shampoo bars are great for travelling, especially if you are just taking hand baggage and for taking to the gym or swimming pool. If you are trying out different brands, remember to check the ingredients list carefully as some shampoo bars contain artificial colours, fragrance, SLS and other chemicals. I hope these are useful tips. Let us know if you have any others to share! |
