Towards a Circular Economy

We were really excited in January to be featured in the local Courier!

It all started in December when we signed up to join an online meeting organised by Sustainable Kirriemuir to hear about the support offered to local businesses by Circular Tayside, an initiative helping people identify circular economy opportunities within their businesses. This led to ....

 a one to one session in which we drilled down into our own practices, focusing on the things we are already doing to reduce waste and identifying areas that we can try to improve. To be honest, although we'd heard the term "circular economy" we hadn't really thought too much about how it applied to us. 

​A circular economy is all about keeping existing products and materials in circulation for as long as possible. It was great to find out that many of the things that we do in our business actually make it a good example of a circular business! You can read the article here.

So what are some of the things we do to reduce waste?
Here are just a few:

• We sell most of our soaps and shampoo bars as “naked” slices  and we have a lower price for bars which are bought in this way.
• Our creams and oils are sold in glass jars & bottles with aluminium lids, our information leaflets are printed on recycled paper, all the wrapping / packaging can be composted and/or recycled
• we can take back your empty jars & lids which we'll wash, sanitise and reuse. Further details here.
• we use an electricity supplier which provides energy from 100% renewable sources
• we reuse old cardboard boxes and packaging to send out our orders

One of our newest initiatives to reduce waste is by encouraging others to reuse, is through our gift sets. 

Whether the gift sets are in bags or boxes, they have all been designed with sustainability in mind. We make them without print or sticky labels so that the bags and boxes can be used again and again. We also take old gift boxes, decorate them and fill them with organic goodies. We hope that the happy recipients of the gift sets will  fill them with other goodies and pass on the love!  

Our gift sets make the perfect present  for a special birthday, to say thank you or to just show someone you love them.

If you buy a gift set from us and you would like us to send the gift direct to someone else, all you have to do is let us know in the notes box at checkout and we will wrap it in tissue paper for you.  You can even leave a message and we'll write it on a little card and put it in the parcel. All at no extra cost of course!
