Welcome to our ethical business. Simply put, ethical to us means treating people, animals and the planet with kindness and respect. This is the driving principle behind our business and influences the products we make, the ingredients we use, the relationships with our customers and suppliers, the packaging we use and the many choices we make in the day to day running of our business.
How are our values embedded in our business?
Kind to People
we never use artificial colours or fragrances, petro-chemicals, synthetic foaming agents & detergents or preservatives. This makes our products kind to skin, including sensitive skin.
our products are organic or predominantly organic, made from ingredients that are grown without the use of GMOs, synthetic fertilisers and herbicides thus reducing the number of chemicals that end up on the skin and get absorbed by the skin into the body.
full and honest information on our website so that customers can make informed decisions.
we comply with all cosmetics legislation and our products have all been safety tested and hold a Cosmetic Product Safety Report. This means that everything is safe to use.
supplying customers with good quality products with realistic prices.
we avoid the use of charm pricing (an example of charm pricing is where £2.99 is used instead of £3. Our brain processes it as £2 and therefore much cheaper than £3 when in reality it isn't much cheaper at all!)
efficient customer service, responding quickly to queries and seeking prompt resolutions to problems.
friendly and solution focused relationships with customers.
buying fairly traded ingredients & products where possible in order to support the producers / growers with fair prices and conditions.
Kind to Animals
we have never and will never use any animal ingredients or animal derived ingredients in our products. As committed vegans we do our very best to ensure that not only the products we make, but also the products and processes we use in the business are vegan friendly.
none of our products has ever or will ever be tested on animals by us or on behalf of us. We are also careful to buy ingredients for our products which have not been tested on animals, from suppliers who do not test on animals or commission tests to be carried out by a 3rd party.
we are certified by PETA as animal test-free and vegan.
we are endorsed by Naturewatch Foundation as Cruelty Free.
our products are organic or predominantly organic. Organic ingredients are grown without GMOs, synthetic fertilisers and herbicides on farms where wildlife and biodiversity is protected.
Kind to Planet
everything you will find in our products, except for the clays and pumice stone in some of our soaps, comes directly from plants with minimal processing.
our products are made predominantly from plant oils and butters and contain only natural ingredients* and we never use artificial colours or fragrances, petro-chemicals, synthetic foaming agents & detergents, or preservatives which can damage the environment. Instead we use flowers, roots, herbs, spices, clays & pumice and essential oils to create gorgeous colours, textures and scents.
we use organic ingredients where possible which reduces the risk of environmental pollution. Organic ingredients are grown without GMOs, synthetic fertilisers and herbicides on farms where wildlife and biodiversity is protected.
it is important to us that the sourcing of our ingredients does not contribute negatively to natural habitats, local communities and wildlife and we always try to support those who are producing crops & oils in a responsible way.
our cosmetic products are all biodegradable.
Our product packaging is predominantly compostable / recyclable and we run a return scheme for our glass bottles and jars.
as a business striving to be circular, reducing and reusing is standard. Please see our Circular Economy page for more information about the steps we are taking on our journey towards zero waste.
we seek out companies that are selling ingredients / products which have been produced in a sustainable way.
we avoid plastic wherever possible to reduce plastic pollution which has a devastating affect on our environment, particularly in our oceans
our electricity is powered by renewable energy.
*we use sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) which is an essential ingredient in the soapmaking process. When sodium hydroxide is added to oils a chemical reaction takes place called saponification. The result of this process is gorgeous soap with none of the sodium hydroxide remaining in the finished product. This is why it does not appear in the soap ingredients lists. See our How it's Made page for more information.
